Marissa and Diego are an adorable couple that we first met during their pre wedding photo session a couple of days before their Big Day. They had a romantic off resort wedding ceremony at Grand Coral Beach in Playa del Carmen and it was simply beautiful: the gorgeous backdrops, the amazing light, charming people… what’s not to love?! During that day Erik and I became witnesses of so much happiness, warm speeches, hilarious dancing and finally, jumps in to a pool! All of these details and people made it a fantastic wedding to shoot. Marissa and Diego are sharing with us theirs reasons why they’ve choose a non resort wedding ceremony at Grand Coral Beach and some of the most memorable moments of the day:
What made you choose Playa del Carmen, Mexico as your wedding venue? We wanted to choose a location that would be fun for people to travel to, because our friends and family are very spread out across Canada & the US. Diego was born in Mexico, so we figured it would be the best out of country location to have the wedding.
Why did you decide to have an off resort wedding? We wanted something more private and intimate. Since our guests spent so much money to come to Mexico already, we wanted to take everyone off resort for something a little different on the day of the wedding.
Can you tell us about the day through your eyes?
Diego: day started out with me feeling a bit nervous and feeling like I had a lot to get done. As soon as I saw Marissa walking down the aisle, all of my nerves disappeared, and none of the earlier stress mattered anymore. Marissa: day started out great…the storm the day before broke the humidity, and the weather was beautiful. I had a relaxing start to the day…breakfast with Diego, a little bit of pool time before getting ready with friends and family. I didn’t feel nervous until the music started for me to walk down the aisle. I completely avoided eye contact with Diego until I reached the end of the aisle, because I knew I would lose it. As soon as I reached him, I felt excited, but calm at the same time. The ceremony was amazing; it was so meaningful to have our friend, Mike, officiate for us. The entire evening flew by, but I kept wanting to slow time down! There is nothing at all that I would change about that day.
What were you’re favorite moment/s of the day?
Marissa: (finally) looking up at Diego after walking down the aisle (no eye contact before then in an effort not to cry!), reading Diego’s vow by accident, listening to the speeches, and dancing! Diego: getting ready with my parents and friends, watching Marissa walk down the aisle, listening to the speeches, performing “Notorius BIG” with Mike Bellett
