”The Adoption Option: Let’s make it the first option”
Animatch is a non-profit rescue/dog adoption service near Montreal in the province of Quebec. It was founded by Helen Lacroix – a dedicated animal lover – 15 years ago. Since then, thousands of dogs have been successfully placed in new homes through Animatch. Just last year, close to 350 dogs found new guardians. Animatch’s success rate is very high. This means that the homes found for the dogs are forever homes. This has a lot to do with the fact that Animatch has very stringent selection process when it comes to finding the right “match” and the perfect guardian.
The center concept allows the dogs to be socialized with other dogs and with humans to facilitate their rehoming. The dogs remain at the center until the right home for them is found. This can take anywhere from a few days to several months. There are currently close to 100 volunteers who contribute their time and their love of dogs in many different ways. Many volunteers work at the Animatch center, making sure that the environment (both indoors and outdoors) is clean and hygienic, that the dogs are exercised and given a lot of play time throughout the day, and of course that they experience the affection, stimulation and love that was often lacking in their previous home environments.
Informing and educating the public on responsible dog ownership, including neutering/spaying is also a large part of what Animatch and Animatch volunteers do.
Animatch also holds very popular yearly fundraising events, such as Bark & Brunch or Pasta for Pups, which are opportunities to source the funds to be able to take care and rehome so many dogs.
