Today’s blog post is all about a wedding that we’ve been excited about for a long time. First, we’ve met Ben and Frank while they were visiting Mayan Riviera in search of a best wedding venue location last autumn. If you didn’t see their e-session in Akumal photo session then we invite you to do it now. Ben and Frank’s sweet Akumal wedding was full of emotion and playful fun. Their friends and family members shed endless tears as they was watching these two exchange rings and have their first kiss at the beautiful Akumal beach as a married couple. Guys took one of the coolest decisions organizing their same sex destination wedding at Akumal, Tulum – to rent out two entire villas at South Akumal (villa Bliss) for them and their guests. Total beauty, total freedom and no need to pay outside vendor fee to bring your favorite photographers as in many resorts of this area.  As a result, their wedding week was basically a several-day party in paradise with swimming, sunning, boating and dancing. This one was another dream destination wedding! And in the heart of this celebration of love and joy there were Ben and Frank, two wonderful people, who have a connection that is incredible to witness. Watching them together it is clear they are meant to be. Ben describes their perfect wedding week in Akumal at the end of this post, here is a part of it:

When it was time to get ready for the ceremony, our friends separated us. We saw each other again right before the procession, and it was a beautiful moment for both of us. Frank looked so beautiful, it made me cry a little. Then we saw that all around the coffee table, our wedding planners had artfully placed one million shots of tequila. The whole wedding party did a shot together and stepped outside. We looked to the ocean where all of our family and friends had gathered, and then cousin Maya started singing “True Blue.” When Joan and Stephanie chimed in with the harmonies, we got chills…

On the morning of our wedding day, we woke up to wonderful memories of the days before. There had already been so many occasions to celebrate — we threw a “meet n’ greet” party, we took our guests on a catamaran excursion and we had a rehearsal dinner with a guitarist and a flamenco dancer. All the fun of the previous few days played out in our minds, especially when we forced our friends to labor on our wedding craft projects: gluing handheld fans and placecards and hand-coloring and assembling our gift bags. When it was time to get ready for the weddings ceremony, our friends separated us. We looked to the ocean where all of our family and friends had gathered, and then cousin Maya started singing “True Blue.” When Joan and Stephanie chimed in with the harmonies, we got chills.

All throughout the ceremony, a pelican would dive into the ocean for dinner, punctuating the soundtrack of surf and wind with an occasional splash. Ahiram led the ceremony and seven friends, one by one, read passages they selected, each more beautiful than the last. After the ceremony, the Mariachis led us away playing “La Isla Bonita,” and we all danced. The speeches by Jenna and Shana were heartfelt and beautiful, both testifying to how Frank and I belonged together. It was clear to both of us how loved we were by our family and friends, not only as individuals, but as a married couple. There is nothing funnier than people falling (as long as no one gets hurt), and with the chairs on the sloped sand, there was no shortage of tipsy friends tipping right over into the sand. Haha!! Joan sang “Ghost Town,” a very dramatic song about loyalty and love, and Frank and I had our first dance together as husbands. The sun set, and the lights of the dancefloor filled the air. It was like being in a stage production! We ate and drank and danced and laughed well into the wee hours of the morning, surrounded by friends and love. It was a perfect day, more beautiful than we could have ever dreamed.
